BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 Southern Conference win over Western Carolina Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 10-6 overall and 3-0 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina falls to 10-7 overall and 1-3 in league action.
 
Western Carolina won the doubles matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to earn the first point of the match.
 
In singles, Samford swept all six matches to take the 6-1 win. At No. 1 singles, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg defeated Kata Foldeak, 6-1, 6-0. On the No. 2 singles court, Samantha Nanere earned a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Luzia Obermeier. At No. 3 singles, Alexis Lopez defeated Jordyn King, 6-1, 6-7, 6-4.
 
On the No. 4 singles court, Ally Hayduk defeated Jacy Smith, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5. At No. 5, Sofia Zaprianov defeated Antonella Benavides, 6-0, 6-2. On the No. 6 singles court, Lindsay Song defeated Angela Perez, 6-4, 7-5.
 
Samford will play at ETSU on Sunday, April 3. The match is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) start from Johnson City, Tenn.
