BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team closed out its regular season with a 4-3 win over Chattanooga Thursday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 12-8 overall and 5-2 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs secure the No. 3 seed for next week's Southern Conference Tournament. Chattanooga falls to 12-8 overall and 3-3 in league action.
 
Chattanooga won on the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Samford, however, took singles wins on the No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 courts to secure the 4-3 win. At No. 1 singles, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg defeated Nicole Abel, 7-6, 6-0. On the No. 3 singles court, Alexis Lopez defeated Caroline Gibbens, 6-2, 6-4.
 
At No. 4 singles, Ally Hayduk earned a 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 win over Emma Van Hee. On the No. 5 singles court, Sofia Zaprianov defeated Callie Billman, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.
 
The Southern Conference Tournament is scheduled for April 21-23 in Chattanooga, Tenn. The pairings for the event will be announced following this weekend's matches.
