Freshman
Jordyn Partain was dealt a tough loss in the circle after allowing just one run on five hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 6.1 innings. The Macon, Ga., native earned her sixth loss in her 14th start and seventh complete game of the season for an overall record of 5-6.
It would be a stalemate through the first six innings with neither team able to plate a run. Samford could not capitalize with runners on through the innings, stranding six before heading into the top of the seventh. The Bulldogs best chance of the game came in the top of the fifth with
Amanda Briskin on second and
Sarah Squillace on first with only one out on the board. However, a fly out to left center and a fielder's choice to third base kept Samford scoreless.
In the final frame, the Bulldogs managed one hit, but could ultimately not kickstart a late rally before the Paladins returned to the plate. In the bottom half of the frame through two plays, Furman's Becca Crawford found herself on third after a Samford throwing error. Ashlee Lykins followed with a single through the right side on a 1-2 count to plate Crawford for a 1-0, walk-off win for the Paladins in game three of the series.
