Jordyn Partain's performance in the circle for Samford's 30th win on the season. The right-handed pitcher threw her 10th compete game for the Bulldogs, improving her overall record to 8-6. Partain gave up zero runs and just two hits, while tying her season-high seven strikeouts through 7.0 innings of work.
The game's lone run was scored by
Timberlyn Shurbutt in the top of the sixth after the senior shot a leadoff home run out of left field on a 3-2 count for a team-high seven on the season. With a 1-0 lead in hand, Samford kept the Buccaneers scoreless in the bottom half of the frame with Partain striking out ETSU's Cameron Young swinging, while Shurbutt, Squillace, and Cahoon turned a double play.
In the seventh, freshman
Sarah Squillace got things started with a single up the middle, advancing to second in after
McKayla Cothran perfectly executed a SAC bunt in the next play. Senior
Mary Katherine Tedder followed with a walk, but despite having two runners on base the Bulldogs recorded a strikeout and fly out to push the game into the final frame. The Buccaneers returned to the plate in hopes of a late rally, however, Partain and the Samford defense retired three-straight for a 1-0 series sweep.
