Freshman right-hander
Jordyn Partain pitched a complete game in the loss, receiving her eighth loss of the season for an overall record of 10-8. The Macon, Ga., native gave up four runs on four hits to go along with four walks and one strikeout over the 7.0 innings.
The No. 3 seed Chattanooga tacked on three runs in the top of the first before Adison Keylon fired off a leadoff home run in the next inning to extend UTC's lead to 4-0. In the remaining five innings, Samford attempted to kickstart a rally but felt short after being limited to just two hits by UTC's Brooke Parrott in the circle.
The Bulldog's best chance came in the bottom of the sixth after freshman
Sarah Squillace and senior
Mary Katherine Tedder both found hits to put runners on with two outs on the board. However, Samford was unable to capitalize after senior
Timberlyn Shurbutt grounded out to Chattanooga's Kailey Snell at shortstop to close the inning.
