Softball Adds Dixon To Coaching Staff

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball program has added T.J. Dixon as an assistant coach, Head Coach Kimball Cassady announced Friday.
 
"We are extremely excited to have TJ joining our staff.  We believe he will bring energy and excitement to our program," Cassady said. "As a former Samford baseball player, TJ obviously has a love for Samford and an understanding of the student athlete that will be successful at Samford."
 
Dixon joins the softball staff after spending the 2021 season as a volunteer assistant coach on the Samford baseball coaching staff.
 
"Ever since I've gotten into coaching, my main focus has been to develop players, make an impact on other people's lives, and build a name for myself," Dixon said. "I saw an auspicious window of opportunity to be able to work with Coach Cassady and Coach Gillespie."
 
A standout on the baseball diamond for Samford from 2014 to 2017, Dixon holds the school career records for games played with 232, runs scored with 188 and at-bats with 895. For his career, he batted .295 with 38 doubles, 15 triples, six home runs and 116 RBI. He was named to the SoCon's All-Freshman team in 2014, and he earned All-SoCon Tournament team honors in 2017.
 
"I've been a student at Samford, a color analyst and a volunteer coach for baseball and I just felt like this was the most opportune time for me to step into a larger roll-on staff as the hitting and outfield coach," Dixon said.
 
Dixon was selected in the 24th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. Dixon spent the 2017 season with the Elizabethton Twins, hitting .259 with 19 RBI and a .333 slugging percentage that season.
 
Off the field, Dixon has a social media following of nearly 60,000, which the staff believes will assistant in recruiting.
