Samford Battles Defending National Champion Georgia For Four Quarters

ATHENS, Ga. – The Samford football team dropped a 33-0 decision at defending FBS national champion Georgia inside of Sanford Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, No. 25 Samford falls to 1-1 on the 2022 season. No. 2 Georgia improves to 2-0 on the young campaign.

"I thought our effort was good," head coach Chris Hatcher said. "We lacked execution, some of that had to do with how good they were. I think we got something we can build off of heading into the rest of the season."

Reigning Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week Michael Hiers went 13-for-21 with a team-leading 62 passing yards. In relief duty, Quincy Crittendon made his Samford debut by passing for 47 yards on 3-of-5 passing.

Ty King led the Samford receiving corps with 52 yards on four catches while Jay Stanton's 12 yards paced the Bulldogs on the ground.

Defensive back Isiah Richardson collected 11 tackles on the defense side of the ball.

Georgia scored 13 points in the first quarter followed by 17 in the second and the final three in the fourth for the 33-0 victory.

Samford returns to FCS play on Sept. 17 with a road matchup with Tennessee Tech.
