Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bulldogs Annihilate Wofford, 83-58

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Men's Basketball Team (11-7, 5-0) improved on its best start in Southern Conference play in program history with an 83-58 routing of the Wofford Terriers (10-8, 2-3) on Wednesday night from the Pete Hanna Center.

The Bulldogs shot 53 percent (32-60) from the floor and dished out 18 assists on just nine turnovers. Samford set a season-high in threes for the third-straight game, converting 16 of 39 attempts (41%) from downtown.

Logan Dye led the Bulldogs with 19 points scored on an 8-11 shooting night. The senior forward also shot 75 percent (3-4) from three.

A.J. Staton-McCray put together another huge performance off the bench, scoring 16 points on a 6-7 shooting effort and hauling in five boards. Staton-McCray knocked down three of four shots from downtown while also finishing with a pair of assists.

Jermaine Marshall (11) and Jaden Campbell (10) both scored in double figures while Jaron Rillie filled up the stat sheet with a seven-point, nine-assist, and six-steal effort. Achor Achor led Samford with six rebounds on the evening.

The Bulldogs came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, outscoring Wofford 9-3 over the first three minutes. Wofford fought back to even the score at 12-all at the 13:15 mark, but the Bulldogs created separation by outscoring the Terriers 17-8 over the next nine minutes of action to go up 32-20.

Samford rattled off an 11-5 run over the final three and a half minutes of the first, which was capped off by a buzzer-beater jumper from Dye to give him 14 for the half. The Bulldogs' 43-27 lead at the break was spearheaded by a 59-percent (17-29) field-goal efficiency over the first 20 minutes in which they dished out 10 assists and turned the ball over only four times.

A Staton-McCray three with 13:18 to play put the Bulldogs up 56-36, which was promptly followed by a 14-3 Samford run to up the Bulldogs' advantage to 70-40 at the 9:35 mark. Campbell capped off the scoring run with a highlight reel slam dunk that sent the fans in attendance into a frenzy.

Samford kept applying the pressure over the final nine minutes, tallying 13 points from its reserves to clinch an 83-58 victory.

The Bulldog bench finished the game with 32 points, with Staton-McCray and Campbell combining for 22. Samford registered 28 points in the paint while out-rebounding Wofford 31-27.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 14 when they host defending SoCon champs Chattanooga in a conference showdown. Tip-off from the Pete Hanna Center is set for 5:00 p.m. (CST), with the game airing live on ESPNU.
