SPARTANBURG, S.C.. – Despite a second half comeback, the Samford men's basketball team fell 85-77 to the Wofford Terriers in a Saturday Southern Conference showdown.
With the setback, Samford drops to 14-9 overall and 8-2 in conference play, while Wofford improves to 13-10 and 5-5 in the league.
Ques Glover paced the Bulldog offense with 20 points and a trio of assists on the afternoon.
Bubba Parham added 11 of his own to join Glover in double figures.
Jermaine Marshall pulled down a game-high seven rebounds to go along with his nine points.
Logan Dye and
A.J. Staton-McCray each added nine points.
In total, all nine Bulldogs that saw action on Saturday recorded at least three points in the contest.
Samford came out of the gates hot on Saturday as the Bulldog trio of Glover, Parham and Staton-McCray each splashed a three to help build an 11-5 Samford lead in the opening moments of the first half.
Wofford wrestled away the Bulldog lead with an 8-0 run in the heart of the first half and never relinquished the lead again. Following the 8-0 run, the Terriers scored 21 of the final 28 points to end the first half to take a 48-32 advantage into the locker room.
Despite back-to-back Bulldog buckets to open the second, the Terrier lead ballooned to as many as 17 with 16:04 left in the second.
In methodical fashion, Samford chipped away at the 17-point lead. A 13-2 run powered by Glover and
Achor Achor shrunk the Wofford lead to just three at 77-74 with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
The Terriers closed out the game with an 8-3 run over the final two minutes to cement the 85-77 final.
Samford looks to salvage the road trip on Wednesday as the Bulldogs head to Cullowhee for a midweek match up with Western Carolina.
