SPARTANBURG. S.C. – The Samford women's golf team used an outstanding second round to lead the Terrier Intercollegiate after two rounds Monday at Carolina Country Club (Par 72, 6,056 yards).
Samford shot a four-under-par 284 in the second round for a two-round total of 593 (309-284) to lead the 14-team field. Elon is in second place, just one stroke behind Samford at 594 (294-300), with Western Carolina in third at 598 (308-290).
"We struggled in the first round but played really hard and well in the second round," Samford head coach
Joe Davidson said. "I am so proud of this group. But we still have work to do tomorrow with Elon and WCU right behind us."
Individually for Samford, freshman
Gabi Nicastro sits in fifth in the 75-player field with a two-round score of 146 (75-71).
Bailey Dunstan, who was named the SoCon Women's Golfer of the Week last week, is tied for sixth at 147 (78-69).
Kelley Topiwala (79-71) and
Grace Engel (77-73) are both tied for 12
th with identical scores of 150.
Anika Richards is tied for 36
th with a score of 157 (79-78).
