Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bulldogs Continue Hot Streak With 101-83 Win Over North Carolina A&T

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford junior Achor Achor scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Bulldog men's basketball team to a 101-83 win over North Carolina A&T on the final day of the Samford Multi-Team Event Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.

The win was Samford's fifth-straight victory, and the Bulldogs improved to 5-2 on the season. North Carolina A&T fell to 0-6 with the loss.

"We had good passing, 24 assists to 12 turnovers, two to one as a team, that's really good," Samford head coach Bucky McMillan said. "The first half was about as good as it could be. We were clicking on all cylinders for the most part. We had the pace finally where we wanted the game to be. Because of that we scored 58 points and were up by 25 at the half.

"The second half, we played different guys, we played guys that don't have as much experience yet," McMillan said. "We made some mental mistakes, we gave up some threes, not knowing what defense we were in. We gave up shots, not knowing what our rotation was. Things like that we can learn from. We didn't play good defense in the second half and that has to be better."

Achor made 8-of-9 shots from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free throw line in setting his career high in scoring. Freshman Riley Allenspach added 13 points for the Bulldogs.

North Carolina A&T was led by Jeremy Robinson and Landon Glasper with 17 points each. Uchenna Kellman-Nicholes added 16 points for the visiting Bulldogs.

North Carolina A&T started the game off hot, racing out to a 17-11 lead with 14:47 left in the first half following a layup by Robinson. Samford then went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-17 lead with 12:13 to go in the half after a pair of free throws by Nathan Johnson.

With the score tied at 20-20, Samford went on a 21-0 run to take a dominating 41-20 lead with 6:16 left in the first half after a jumper by Dallas Graziani. Samford led by as many as 27 points in the first half and the Bulldogs took a 58-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, North Carolina A&T closed to within 13 points at 86-73 with 4:51 left after a layup by Kyle Duke. Samford pushed its lead back out to 20 points at 97-77 with 1:50 left in the game after a layup by Achor. Samford finished with the 101-83 win.

Next up, Samford will play host to Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday, Nov. 30. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
