GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT TEXAS SOUTHERN (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford men's basketball team will remain on the road, playing at Texas Southern Thursday evening. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from H&PE Arena in Houston, Texas.
 
Samford and Texas Southern have met just two previous times, with the series tied at 1-1. The teams met last season in Birmingham, with Samford winning, 78-63.
 
Samford enters Thursday night's game with a mark of 10-2 on the season. The Bulldogs played at Valparaiso on Tuesday, earning a 79-61 win. Samford has won its last 10-straight games, the longest win streak since the 1998-99 team won 13-straight games. The school record for longest win streak is 14 by the 1960-61 team.
 
So far this season, Samford has been led by junior Achor Achor, averaging 14.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. Junior A.J. Staton-McCray is averaging 13.2 points per game, while senior Jermaine Marshall is scoring 10.6 points per game.
 
Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in scoring (90.5 ppg.), scoring margin (+14.7), three-pointers made (10.7 pg.), three-point field goal percentage (0.404), free throw percentage (0.749), turnover margin (3.00), assists (20.67 pg.), steals (11.08 pg.) and blocked shots (4.25 pg.). Individually for Samford, Staton-McCray ranks third in the SoCon in free throw percentage (.882) and fourth in steals (1.7 pg.). Achor ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (.575) and third in blocked shots (1.7 pg.). Rylan Jones ranks second in assist to turnover ratio (3.2) and fourth in assists (4.8 pg.).
 
The Texas Southern Tigers enter Thursday night's game with a record of 1-8 so far this season. The Tigers most recently took on Howard, earning a 79-78 win in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sunday, Dec. 17.
 
P.J. Henry has led Texas Southern in scoring so far this season, averaging 13.9 points per game. Jonathan Cisse scores 9.2 points per game for the Tigers.
