Men’s Basketball Hosts The Citadel Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Men's Basketball Team (17-9, 11-2 SoCon) returns home for a pivotal Southern Conference contest against The Citadel Bulldogs (9-17, 4-9 SoCon) on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Tip-off from the Pete Hanna Center is set for 2:00 p.m., with the contest streaming live on ESPN+.

Saturday's match-up is the 29th meeting between Samford and The Citadel, in a series that dates back to 1992. Samford has won five of the last six contests and holds a 15-13 series advantage.

The teams met earlier this season on Dec. 31 in Charleston, S.C. with Samford earning a 75-63 win in its second game of SoCon play. Logan Dye led the Bulldogs with 20 points in the win while Jermaine Marshall logged a 13-point, 10-rebound effort.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 70-69 overtime victory at Mercer on Wednesday, improving the team's SoCon record to 11-2 through 12 games and locking them in a three-way tie with Furman and UNCG for the top spot in the SoCon standings.

Ques Glover led the Bulldogs with a game-high 22 points on the evening. Marshall recorded 17 points while Dye added 10 and five.

The victory on Wednesday evening ended a 21-year drought for Samford, marking the first win at Mercer since Feb. 23, 2022.

The Bulldogs shot exceptionally well from the free throw line Wednesday evening, knocking down 19-21 shots (91 percent) in their one-point win against the Bears. Glover (5-5), Marshall (5-5), Bubba Parham (4-4), and A.J. Staton-McCray (3-3) all shot 100 percent from the charity stripe in the victory.

Samford's 11 SoCon wins mark the most by the Bulldogs since joining the conference in 2008. Four more wins would match the most conference wins in program history, set by the 1998-99 squad that finished 15-1 in TAAC play.

The Bulldogs are averaging 76.3 points and 33 rebounds per contest in SoCon home games this season, while shooting 46 percent from the floor and posting a +10.7 scoring margin

Dye is averaging a team-high 17.2 points per game against SoCon opponents in the Pete Hanna Center while Marshall is averaging 15.2 points and a team-best 7.3 boards per contest.

The Bulldogs were receiving votes in the latest CollegInsider.com Men's Mid-Major Top 25 released on Feb. 6. Samford was joined by SoCon brethren Furman (10) and UNCG (RV) in the rankings.

The Citadel Bulldogs (9-17, 4-9 SoCon) have lost their last five contests, including an 82-63 road setback at Chattanooga on Feb. 8. Stephen Clark led the Bulldogs with 15 points and eight rebounds while AJ Smith added 11 points and seven boards.

Clark comes into the contest leading The Citadel in both scoring (17 PPG) and rebounding averages (6.6 RPG.) Austin Ash leads the SoCon with 84 made threes on the season and is averaging 14.8 points per game.

The Citadel leads the league in free throw percentage at 76 percent (309-407) on the season while also ranking third in opponents' three-point percentage at 32 percent.
