Bulldogs Take Home Title At ASU Spring Classic

PRATTVILLE, Ala. – The Samford women's golf team earned the team title, and Christian Williams took home individual honors at the ASU Spring Classic, hosted by Alabama State University, Sunday and Monday at RTJ Golf Trail at Capitol Hill.

"I am proud of the way our ladies competed in tough conditions over the last two days," Samford head coach Joe Davidson said. "They all competed well the entire tournament and I am especially proud of Christian Williams for taking individual honors. We still have some work to do, but I am proud of the direction this team is headed."

The teams played the first round and most of the second round on Sunday with a par of 72 and 6,033 yards but had to suspend the second round due to darkness. The second round was completed Monday morning, and then the teams played a third nine-hole round at a par of 36 and 2,986 yards, following the completion of round two.

As a team, Samford shot a five-over par 771 (310-312-149) to finish first out of eight teams. Sacred Heart came in second at 776 (309-313-154).

Individually, Williams led the field of 41 golfers with a final score of 186 (75-73-38). Sophie Membrino (78-80-36) and Kelley Topiwala (77-79-38) both tied for sixth with identical scores of 194.

Bailey Dunstan was Samford's fourth player to finish in the top 10, placing ninth with a final score of 197 (80-80-37). Kate Joyner tied for 13^th at 205 (84-81-40).

Samford will next host the huntsville.org Intercollegiate, Mar. 6-7, in Huntsville, Ala.
