Men’s Hoops Closes Out Road Slate at Chattanooga Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Bulldogs will hit the road to take on the Chattanooga Mocs on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in their final road Southern Conference contest of the regular season.

Tip-off from Chattanooga, Tenn. is set for 6:00 p.m. (CST), with the contest streaming live on ESPN+.

Samford erased a 19-point deficit to record a 75-74 home win against Chattanooga in their 107th meeting on Jan. 14 earlier this season. The Bulldogs trail Chattanooga 66-42 in the all-time series.

Logan Dye led a group of five Bulldogs that scored in double figures with a 23-point, six-rebound effort in the win over the Mocs. Jermaine Marshall went for 15 points and nine boards while Bubba Parham and A.J. Staton-McCray each added 12.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 96-61 road victory at VMI on Saturday to improve to 14-2 in the SoCon to sit atop the regular-season standings. The win got the Bulldogs to 20 wins for just the fourth time in program history and marked the first time in program history the Bulldogs logged 20 regular-season wins in consecutive seasons.

The Bulldogs used a monster second half to pull away from VMI, outscoring them 65-31 over the final 20 minutes. Samford knocked down 15 threes in the second half on 21 attempts (71%) while shooting 23-34 from the field (68%).

Parham led the Bulldogs with 19 points on a 7-8 shooting day (5-9 3PT) while Jaron Rillie notched 17 points and eight assists.

Parham joined Marshall and Dye as the third Bulldog to be named Southern Conference Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 20 points per game, shooting 71 percent from the floor (12-17), and 69 percent (9-13) from three last week.

The Bulldogs were receiving votes in the most recent CollegeInsider.com Men's Mid-Major Top 25 poll release on Feb. 20. Furman (14) and UNCG (RV) also made an appearance in the rankings.

Samford is currently projected as a No. 15 seed in ESPN's most recent 2023 NCAA Tournament Bracketology compiled by Joe Lunardi on Feb. 21.

The Chattanooga Mocs (15-14, 7-9 SoCon) fell 93-76 against UNCG at home on Saturday. Jamal Johnson (28) and Demetrius Davis (20) combined for 48 points in the setback.

Johnson leads the group of active Mocs with a scoring average of 13.8 points per game while posting a clip of 15 points per contest against conference opponents.

The Mocs come in leading the SoCon in three-point efficiency at 37 percent. Chattanooga ranks second in the league with an average of 15.6 assists per contest.
