JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Samford men's tennis team opened Southern Conference play with a 4-3 setback at ETSU Sunday afternoon.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in SoCon play. ETSU improves to 2-8 overall and 1-0 in league action.
 
ETSU won two of the three doubles matches to claim the first point of the match.
 
In singles, Samford won on the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 courts, but lost at the first three positions to give ETSU the 4-3 win.
 
At No. 4 singles, J.B. Pickard defeated Juan Lobisano, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. On the No. 5 court, Darcy Nicholls defeated Lucas Britez, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 6 singles, Santiago Arrendondo earned a 7-6, 4-6, 11-9 win over Francisco Lamas.
 
Samford will next host UNC Greensboro on Saturday, March 4. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
