Men’s Hoops Returns Home to Host ETSU Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Men's Basketball Team will return home for the first time in two weeks when they host the Buccaneers of ETSU in Southern Conference play on Saturday, Feb. 4.
 
Tip-off from the Pete Hanna Center is set for 2:00 p.m. (CST), with the contest streaming live on ESPN+.
 
Saturday's match-up is the 20th meeting between Samford and ETSU in a series that dates back to 1977-78. The Bucs hold a 16-3 series advantage, but the Bulldogs have taken the last two contests.
 
The teams met earlier this season on Jan. 18 in Johnson City, Tenn., with Samford earning a 69-59 win. Logan Dye led the Bulldogs with 19 points while Jermaine Marshall added 17 points and 12 rebounds.  
 
The Bulldogs are coming off an 85-77 victory at Western Carolina on Wednesday, improving the team's SoCon record to 9-2 through 11 games.
 
Samford shot 53 percent (29-55) from the floor against the Catamounts, marking the sixth time the have Bulldogs shot 50 percent or better on field goals in SoCon action.
 
Dye set a new career-high with 24 points in Wednesday night's win. The senior forward shot 8-14 from the field and hauled in seven rebounds.
 
A.J. Staton-McCray recorded his first career double-double as a Bulldog, tallying 18 points and 10 boards on a 7-9 shooting night. Ques Glover also scored in double figures, finishing with 17 points.
 
The Bulldogs have put together their best conference performances at home this season, where they are averaging 79.4 points per game and a +10.6 scoring margin against SoCon foes in the Pete Hanna Center. 
 
Through five home SoCon matchups, Dye is averaging a team-high 19 points per game and shooting 53 percent while Marshall is averaging 16.2 points and eight rebounds per contest.
 
The Bulldogs were most recently receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.Com Men's Mid Major Top 25 poll. Samford was accompanied by Furman in the poll, who checked in at no. 16.
 
The Buccaneers of ETSU (9-15, 5-6 SoCon) routed Wofford 77-52 at home their last time out on Feb. 1. ETSU shot a season-high 62 percent from the floor, with Jordan King and Jalen Hayes both scoring 22 points in the victory.  
 
King leads a trio of Bucs averaging double figures in scoring at 14.2 points per game. Hayes comes in averaging 13.9 points and six rebounds per contest while Jaden Seymour leads the team in rebounding average at 7.3 boards per contest.
 
The Buccaneers are averaging a league-high 37.5 rebounds per game in SoCon contests and rank second in opponents' points per game in conference play (66.5). ETSU also ranks second in opponents' field goal percentage (41%) and opponents' three-point efficiency (30 %).
