BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Middle Tennessee Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 7-4 on the season. MTSU falls to 8-7 with the loss.
 
Samford took an early lead in the match by earning the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Samantha Nanere and Lindsay Song defeated Love-Star Alexis and Muskan Gupta, 6-4. On the No. 2 doubles court, Alexis Lopez and Lauren Waddles defeated Sana Garakani and Cara Szilasi, 6-3. The match at No. 3 doubles was not finished.
 
In singles, Samford picked up wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the 4-3 win. At No. 1 singles, Lopez defeated Alexis, 6-4, 7-6. On the No. 5 court, Cameron Rogin earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lilly-Sophie Schmidt. At No. 6 singles, Olivia Jablonski defeated Szilasi, 6-1, 6-0.
 
Samford will play host to UTEP Saturday. The match is set for a noon start from the Samford Tennis Center.
