GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Samford men's tennis team earned an impressive road Southern Conference win, 5-2, Monday afternoon at Furman.
With the win, Samford improves to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. Furman falls to 7-11 overall and 1-1 in league play.
In doubles, Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts to capture a 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles,
Maxwell Giddens and
Sandeep Mohandoss defeated Cole Burnam and Thomas Kennedy, 6-1. On the No. 3 doubles court,
Santiago Arredondo and
Harrison Williams earned a 6-4 win over Ben Cahill and Alex Han.
Samford won on the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles courts to take the 5-2 win. The point that secured the win for the Bulldogs came on the No. 5 court when
Darcy Nicholls defeated Burnam, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Giddens defeated Elijah Poritzky, 6-0, 6-1.
On the No. 3 court, Mohandoss defeated Kennedy, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 4 singles,
J.B. Pickard earned a 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 win over Emil Westling.
Samford will host cross-town rival UAB on Wednesday, April 5. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
