CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The No. 4-seeded Samford men's tennis team fell to the No. 5-seeded Furman Paladins, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament Friday morning.
 
With the loss, Samford ends its season with a mark of 10-11. Furman improves to 11-13 with the win, and the Paladins advance to Friday's semifinal round.
 
Furman took the doubles match at No. 1, 6-0, but on the No. 2 doubles court, Samford's J.B. Pickard and Santiago Arrendondo defeated Ben Cahill and Emil Westling, 6-1 to even things up. Furman, however, captured the match at No. 3, 7-6, to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Paladins took a 2-0 lead when Jerry Barton defeated Mohammed Ali Bellalouna, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles, Furman's Westling defeated Pickard, 6-4, 6-1, for a 3-0 Furman lead. Samford then took the match at No. 3 singles, with Sandeep Mohandoss earning a 6-2, 6-3 win over Elijah Pritzky to make the score 3-1. Furman clinched the match at No. 4 singles, with Thomas Kennedy defeating Darcy Nicholls, 7-6, 6-4, giving the Paladins the 4-1 win.
