BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team fell in its final home match of the 2023 season, 5-2, to Furman Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 11-6 overall and 3-2 in Southern Conference play. Furman improves to 9-11 overall and 5-0 in league play.
 
The Paladins took the doubles point by winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. At No. 2 doubles, Samford's Alexis Lopez and Lauren Waddles defeated Ellie Schulson and Marissa Pennings, 7-5.
 
In singles, Samford won at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, but Furman won at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to close out the 5-2 win for the Paladins. At No. 2 singles, Ally Hayduk defeated Pennings, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. At No. 4, Samantha Nanere earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Jess Dawson.
 
Samford will play at UNC Greensboro on Friday, April 14. The match is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) start from Greensboro, N.C.
