BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Dominic Ganley, a redshirt junior pitcher on the Samford baseball team, has been named the chair of The Southern Conference's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the 2023-24 academic year, the league announced Friday.
 
Ganley is also one of three leaders of Samford's SAAC, being joined by Joshua Mathiason from football and Masyn Marchbanks from women's basketball. Marchbanks is also a member of the SoCon's SAAC.
 
"We have three outstanding leaders chairing Samford SAAC this year, in Josh Mathiason, Masyn Marchbanks and Dom Ganley," Samford Deputy AD Michelle Durban said. "Dom has been an active member of SAAC while at Samford and I believe that experience will not only help our campus SAAC but the SoCon SAAC as well."
 
The SoCon SAAC plays a crucial role in representing student-athletes within the conference, fostering leadership, and initiating positive change in collegiate athletics. The committee is dedicated to promoting the well-being of student-athletes, encouraging academic success, and facilitating a positive student-athlete experience. This group consists of student-athletes from SoCon member institutions, and they collaborate on various initiatives to enhance the overall collegiate athletics experience.
 
Ganley brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to this leadership role. On the field, Ganley has 21 appearances as a relief pitcher, logging 18 innings on the mound and recording 15 strikeouts.
 
"We are thrilled to have Dominic Ganley and Olivia Lipari leading the SoCon SAAC for the 2023-24 academic year," Terri Brne, Senior Associate Commissioner of The Southern Conference, said. "Their passion, leadership, and dedication to their respective sports and academics make them ideal choices to guide the SAAC's efforts in supporting our student-athletes."
