BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over North Alabama Sunday at the Samford Tennis Center.

With the win, Samford improved to 2-1 on the young season. North Alabama fell to 1-1 with the loss.

North Alabama won the doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the first point of the match. The doubles match at No. 1 was not finished.

In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to earn the 5-2 win. On the No. 1 singles court, Alexis Lopez defeated Valeria San Miguel, 6-0, 6-2. On the No. 2 singles court, Emily Surcey picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stanislava Bobrovnikova.

At No. 4 singles, Noelle Mauro defeated Kalais Going, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2. On the No. 5 singles court, Margaret Jaraczewski defeated Ada Karabacak, 6-5, 6-0. At No. 6 singles, Samantha Maras earned a 6-1, 7-5 win over Marta Torres.

Samford will next play on Saturday, Feb. 10 when the Bulldogs host Belmont. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
