BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-0 win over Southern Mississippi Monday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improved to 3-2 on the young season. Southern Miss dropped to 2-3 with the loss.
 
In doubles, Samford won at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to capture the first point of the match. On the No. 1 doubles court, Alexis Lopez and Noelle Mauro defeated Alyssa Richter and Hannah Chambers, 7-5. At No. 3 doubles, Meredith Taylor and Grace Keller earned a 6-4 win over Angelina Blinova and Malannia Vashkevich. Southern Miss won on the No. 3 doubles court.
 
In singles, Samford picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 to finish off the 4-0 win. The match at No. 4 was not finished and the matches at No. 5 and No. 6 were not started. At No. 1 singles, Lopez defeated Richter, 6-3, 7-6. On the No. 2 singles court, Emily Surcey defeated Chambers, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Ally Hayduk defeated Zenn Lim, 3-0, retired.
 
Samford will next play at Memphis on Sunday, Feb. 18. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start from Memphis, Tenn.
