BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at cross-town rival UAB Thursday afternoon.
 
With the loss, Samford fell to 3-4. UAB improved to 4-6 with the win.
 
In doubles, Samford won on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts to take the first point of the contest. At No. 2, Emily Surcey and Grace Keller defeated Adela Wasserbauerova and Klara Kajabova, 6-3. On the No. 3 court, Ally Hayduk and Margaret Jaraczewski earned a 6-4 win over Maggie White and Annalisa Smith.
 
In singles, Samford won on the No. 2 and No. 4 courts, but UAB took the matches at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to take the 4-3 win. At No. 2, Surcey defeated Kajabova, 7-5, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Noelle Mauro defeated Annalisa Smith, 6-1, 6-4.
 
Samford will next play at South Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 24. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start from Mobile, Ala.
