Samford Looks To Make History Against ETSU Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --
The Samford men's basketball team will look to make history when the Bulldogs play host to the ETSU Bucs Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
 
Samford enters Saturday afternoon's game with a mark of 24-4 overall and 13-2 in SoCon play. Samford's 24 wins are tied for the most wins in program history. If Samford can win Saturday, the Bulldogs would wrap up at least a share of the SoCon regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the SoCon Tournament for the first time since joining the league for the 2008-09 season. The Bulldogs most recently played host to Furman on Wednesday night, picking up a dramatic 74-72 win over the Paladins.
 
Samford and ETSU have met 21 previous times, with the Bucs holding a 16-5 series lead. Earlier this season, Samford earned a 75-72 win over ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn. 
 
Entering Saturday's game, Samford is led by junior Achor Achor, averaging 15.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. Senior Jermaine Marshall is currently averaging 11.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He recently passed the 1,000-career point mark and now has 1,002 points in his collegiate career. Jaden Campbell averages 10.9 points per game for Samford. Rylan Jones leads the team in assists, dishing out 5.1 assists per contest.
 
Entering this weekend, the Bulldogs rank second in the nation in three-point percentage, making 40.3 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc. Samford also ranks in the top 10 in the nation in scoring offense (4th-87.3), fastbreak points per game (5th-16.18), steals per game (5th-10.5), bench points per game (5th-34.96), assists per game (6th-18.3), turnovers forced per game (6th-17.18) and winning percentage (8th-85.7).
 
The ETSU Bucs enter Saturday afternoon's game with a mark of 14-14 overall and 6-9 in Southern Conference play. ETSU most recently hosted VMI Wednesday night, with the Bucs taking an 82-69 win over the Keydets.
 
The Bucs have been led so far this season by Jaden Seymour, averaging 15.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Ebby Asamoah also averages 15.0 points per game for the Bucs. Quimari Peterson currently averages 13.3 points per game for ETSU.
