NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win at Belmont Friday afternoon.
 
Samford improved to 6-4 with the win. Belmont dropped to 1-5 with the loss.
 
"This match was a physical and an especially big test mentally for us," Samford head coach Oliver Reynolds said. "We were able to stay composed and deal with tough weather conditions and not let them affect us negatively. Our guys did a good job of taking the doubles point where I felt 1-3, we showed up from the start. In singles we got some momentum early by taking the first sets at No. 5 and No. 6 and ended up coming out with a tough 4-3 win against a team we lost to 6-1 last year. It was also our first match win on the road. I'm proud of the guys for fighting through adversity today and staying tough. I think this experience will help us a lot moving forward."
 
Samford won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to take the first point of the contest. At No. 1 doubles, Maxwell Giddens and Sandeep Mohandoss defeated Ian Cruz and Tomas Luis, 6-1. On the No. 3 doubles court, Darcy Nicholls and Will Gray picked up a 6-3 win over Gabriel Sardo and Niklas von Hellens. The match at No. 2 doubles was not finished.
 
In singles, Belmont won at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 positions, but Samford won on the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 courts to earn the 4-3 win.
 
At No. 4 singles, Maksim Bogdanovich defeated von Hellens, 7-5, 6-4. On the No. 5 singles court, J.B. Pickard defeated Sardo, 6-4, 6-4. Sebastian Harrison earned a 6-2, 7-5 win over Ruben Busch at No. 6 singles.
 
Samford will next open Southern Conference play by playing at UNC Greensboro on March 3. The match is set for a 1 p.m. (CT) start from Greensboro, N.C.
