BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-3 non-conference win over Western Kentucky Friday at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improved its season record to 4-10. Western Kentucky fell to 9-6 with the loss.
 
Samford took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. On the No. 1 doubles court, Alexis Lopez and Noelle Mauro defeated Paola Cortez and Anna-Marie Kopecka, 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, Emily Surcey and Grace Keller defeated Sofia Blanco and Sayda Hernandez, 7-6.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 to earn the 4-3 win. At No. 1, Lopez defeated Cortez, 7-5, 7-5. On the No. 4 singles court, Mauro earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hernandez. At No. 5 singles, Margaret Jaraczewski defeated Kopecka, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6.
 
Samford will next play at Wofford on Sunday, March 24. The match is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) start from Spartanburg, S.C.
