SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a big Southern Conference road win at Wofford, 4-3, Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Samford improved its season record to 5-10 overall and 1-2 in Southern Conference play. Wofford fell to 11-6 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Samford took the early lead by winning on all three doubles courts to capture the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles,
Alexis Lopez and
Noelle Mauro defeated Grace Agster and Lily Woods, 7-5. On the No. 2 doubles court,
Emily Surcey and
Grace Keller defeated Breda Brennan and Chloe Elliott, 7-5. At No. 3 doubles,
Margaret Jaraczewski and
Lauren Waddles defeated Emely Kahrs and Brianna Wilbur, 6-2.
In singles, Samford won at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 to earn the 4-3 win. At No. 2 singles, Surcey defeated Wilbur, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. At No. 3 singles,
Ally Hayduk earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over Woods. On the No. 4 singles court, Mauro defeated Kahrs, 6-3, 6-2.
Next up, Samford will take on Western Carolina on Friday, March 29. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center.
