BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team suffered its first Southern Conference loss of the season with a 4-3 setback to ETSU Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the loss, Samford fell to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improved its record to 7-9 overall and 4-0 in league play.
Samford swept the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles,
Maxwell Giddens and
Sandeep Mohandoss defeated Milledge Cossu and Francisco Lamas, 6-3. On the No. 2 doubles court,
Maksim Bogdanovich and
Santiago Arredondo earned a 6-4 win over Dimitri Badra and Adam Nagoudi. At No. 3 doubles,
Will Gray and
Darcy Nicholls defeated Pedro Cressoni and Alberto Garcia, 7-5.
In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3, but ETSU won the other four singles matches for the 4-3 win. At No. 2 singles, Mohandoss defeated Peter Kalocsai, 6-1, 7-6. At No. 3 singles, Nicholls picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Cossu.
Samford will next play host to cross-town rival UAB on Wednesday, April 3. The match is set for a 3 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
