CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The third-seeded Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-1 win over the host and sixth-seeded Chattanooga in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon at The Champions Club.
 
With the win, Samford improved its record to 10-11, and the Bulldogs advanced to Friday's semifinal round where Samford will face second-seeded Furman at 9 a.m. (CT). Chattanooga ended its season with a mark of 8-14.
 
In doubles, Samford took the match at No. 3 with Margaret Jaraczewski and Lauren Waddles defeating Margaret Manolache and Emma Pedretti, 6-3. After Chattanooga took the No. 1 doubles match, Samford clinched the doubles point at No. 2 when Emily Surcey and Grace Keller defeated Caroline Gibbens and Emma Peeler, 7-5.
 
In singles, Chattanooga tied the match with a win on the No. 2 court, but Samford took the lead with wins at No. 3 and No. 6. At No. 3, Ally Hayduk defeated Peeler, 6-4, 6-2. On the No. 6 singles court, Meredith Taylor earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Manolache to give Samford a 3-1 lead.
 
Samford clinched the 4-1 win at No. 5 singles when Jaraczewski defeated Pedretti, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
