CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The second-seeded Samford men's tennis team secured a spot in the Southern Conference Tournament championship match with a 4-2 win over Furman in the semifinal round Friday at The Champions Club.
 
With the win, Samford improved its record to 15-7 on the season. The Bulldogs will take on the top-seeded ETSU Bucs for the tournament title Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT). Furman ended its season with a record of 13-12.
 
Furman took an early lead by capturing the doubles point. The Paladins won on the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts to take the 1-0 lead.
 
In singles, Furman took a 2-0 lead with a win on the No. 1 court. Samford, however, came back with wins on the No. 2, No. 5, No. 3 and No. 6 courts to take the 4-2 win.
 
At No. 2 singles, Sandeep Mohandoss defeated Thomas Kennedy, 6-4, 6-1. On the No. 5 court, J.B. Pickard defeated Cole Burnam, 6-2, 7-6 to tie the score. At No. 3 singles, Darcy Nicholls defeated Emil Westling, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 for a 3-2 Samford lead. At No. 6 singles, Santiago Arredondo secured the win for Samford by defeating Connor Laymon, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
