ATHENS, Ga. – The Samford soccer team battled the Georgia Bulldogs, falling by a score of 2-0 Thursday evening at the Turner Soccer Complex.
With the loss, Samford fell to 2-5-1 on the season. Georgia improved to 3-2-2 with the victory.
Martha Bishop led Samford with two shots, with one coming on goal.
Mia Krusinski played the full 90 minutes in goal, saving four shots and allowing the two goals.
For Georgia, Toi Penn and Margie Detrizio scored a goal each. Jordan Brown played the full game in goal, saving six shots, without allowing a goal.
Penn got the scoring started for Georgia, netting her goal in the 12th minute off an assist from Detrizio for a 1-0 Georgia lead. The home Bulldogs added to their lead when Detrizio scored off an assist from Nicole Vernis for a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute.
The teams played through a scoreless second half as Georgia walked away with the 2-0 win.
Samford will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule by hosting Georgia Southern on Sunday. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start from Shauna Yelton Field and admission is free.
