BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Jacksonville State Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
Samford improved to 2-1 with the win. Jacksonville State fell to 0-1 with the loss.
 
Jacksonville State won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead.
 
Samford won the singles matches at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to come back for the 4-3 win. At No. 1 singles, Emily Surcey defeated Irene Artigas, 6-3, 6-1.
 
On the No. 4 singles court, Margaret Jaraczewski defeated Anna Syrova, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 5 singles, Eleni Liakonis defeated Zuzana Pavelekova, 6-4, 6-2. On the No. 6 singles court, Meredith Taylor earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ella Tuomela.
 
Samford will host Presbyterian College on Sunday, Jan. 26. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
