Samford Basketball Takes on The Citadel on the Road

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team plays its second-straight game on the road tomorrow at The Citadel as they continue Southern Conference play. Samford enters the game with a 17-5 record overall and sit 7-2 in SoCon play while The Citadel is 5-15 and 0-9 in league play. The game is scheduled to tip tomorrow at 12 p.m. CST on ESPN+.

The Samford Bulldogs are coming off a 72-70 defeat at Furman in their last game on Wednesday. The Bulldogs fell behind, trailing by as much as 12 against the Paladins before their comeback bid came up short after a missed three-pointer at the buzzer. Rylan Jones led the Bulldogs with 19 points against Furman while Trey Fort and Lukas Walls also reached double-figure points. 

The meeting between the Bulldogs and The Citadel is the 33rd all-time, with Samford holding a 19-13 record in the series overall. Samford took down The Citadel in the previous matchup this season as they won on their home floor 86-56. Trey Fort led the team with 19 points while Rylan Jones added 18 and Jaden Brownell had 13 points. At the halfway point through Southern Conference play, the Dogs sit atop the league standings.

The Bulldogs hit 18 threes against The Citadel earlier this year and average 10.8 makes on the season which is sixth best in the nation. Samford is 7th in the country in caused turnovers forced per game at 16.4. Samford sits 98th in the NET rankings, the highest-ranked team in the Southern Conference ahead of UNCG who sits 116th. The Dogs are 17th in the country in assists per game, averaging 17.2 per game.

The Citadel enters the game with a 5-15 record overall on the season and is 0-9 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs have dropped 12 straight games leading into hosting Samford. They are coming off an overtime defeat vs. Western Carolina and an 80-46 loss to Mercer in their past two games. Head coach Ed Conroy is in his second stint as the head coach for the Bulldogs and is in his seventh season overall at The Citadel. The Bulldogs were picked 9th out of 10 teams in the Southern Conference Preseason Poll. Brody Fox leads the way for The Citadel, scoring 16.4 points per game, and is the team's only double digit scorer.
