BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a dominating 4-0 win over Alabama State Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford's record improved to 4-1 on the young season. Alabama State fell to 1-4 with the loss.
 
In doubles, Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts to pick up the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Sara Erenda and Margaret Jaraczewski defeated Cleanne Pickel and Ena Arnautovic, 6-0. On the No. 2 doubles court, Emily Surcey and Grace Keller earned a 6-0 win over Melisa Mekic and Diana Craciun.
 
Samford won the singles matches and No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 to secure the 4-0 win. At No. 1 singles, Surcey defeated Craciun, 6-0, 6-2. On the No. 2 singles court, Jaraczewski defeated Mekic, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Eleni Liakonis defeated Carmelle Vial, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Next up, Samford will play next Friday, Feb. 7, when the Bulldogs play at Lipscomb. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start from Nashville, Tenn.
