GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD at TEXAS SOUTHERN (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team returns to action tomorrow night as they begin a three-game road set with a game against Texas Southern. Tip is set for 7 p.m. as the Bulldogs enter the game with a 1-1 record while the Tigers come in with a 0-2 mark.
The Samford Bulldogs and Texas Southern are meeting for the fifth time in program history. Samford leads the all-time series 3-1, including a 97- 82 victory at the Pete Hanna Center last season.
The Bulldogs are coming off an 82-72 victory in their home opener against South Carolina State on Friday. For the second-straight game, the Dogs were led by transfer guard Jadin Booth, who scored 26 points against South Carolina State. He is currently second in the country, averaging 30 ppg. Booth is 14-of-27 from three, and is shooting 50 percent from the floor and over 90 percent from the line.
Dylan Faulkner tied his career-high, scoring 19 points against South Carolina State, going 8-of-13 from the field. Starting point guard Keaton Norris stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Newcomers Isaiah Campbell-Finch and Judson Bjornstad scored their first points for the Bulldogs with 6 and 5 points, respectively, off the bench. Samford handled the SCSU full-court press, committing just 10 turnovers, just 2 of which were in the second half. The Bulldogs are the top three-point shooting team in the SoCon so far this season at 39.3 percent.
Texas Southern enters the game with a 0-2 record on the season. The Tigers have faced two difficult opponents in Gonzaga and Texas A&M, falling by over 30 in each contest. Head coach Johnny Jones is in his eighth season at Texas Southern, taking them to the  NCAA Tournament in three straight seasons from 2020 to 2023. TSU was picked to finish fifth in the SWAC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Tigers are led by Troy Hupstead and Cameron Patterson, who are each averaging double-figures offensively.
