GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. AUSTIN PEAY (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  The Samford football team will play go back on the road to play at Austin Peay Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fortera Stadium in Clarksville, Tenn.
 
Samford, in its first game under interim head coach Scot Sloan, enters the game with a record of 1-9 overall and 1-7 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs dropped a 38-14 decision to ETSU last week. Austin Peay has a mark of 6-4 overall and 4-3 in UAC play. The Governors earned a 41-38 win over Central Arkansas last week.  

Samford and Austin Peay are meeting for the 10th time, with Samford owning an 8-1 series lead. The last time the teams met came in 2007 when both teams were in the Ohio Valley Conference. Austin Peay picked up a 28-25 win in that latest meeting. The teams first met in 1990, with Samford winning by a score of 28-9 in Birmingham. Samford is 3-0 in games played in Clarksville, Tenn., having played at Austin Peay in 1995, 1997 and 1999. The last meeting at Austin Peay came in 1999, with Samford picking up a 51-0 win over the Governors.
 
If Samford is able to earn a win Saturday at Austin Peay the victory would be the 500th win in the history of the Bulldogs' program. Samford now has 499 wins in the long history of the program.
 
SAMFORD ON THE ROAD
Samford has seven road games on the 2025 schedule and the
Bulldogs are currently 1-4 in those contests. Last season, Samford
was 1-4 on the road.
 
SAMFORD AGAINST TENNESSEE TEAMS
Samford has an all-time record of 93-93-9 against teams from the state of Tennessee, including a mark of 8-1 against Saturday's opponent, Austin Peay. Samford has played the following teams from Tennessee: Austin Peay (8-1), Bethel (2-0), Carson-Newman (6-11), Chattanooga (12-35-3), Cumberland (1-0), ETSU (8-5), Knoxville College (1-0), Maryville (6-3-1), Memphis Navy (2-4), Sewanee (8-7-2), Tennessee (0-2), UT Martin (16-4-1), Tennessee State (2-3), Tennessee Tech (14-12), Tennessee Tech "B" Team (1-1), Tennessee Wesleyan (1-2), Union (5-1-1) and Vanderbilt (0-2).

Samford has an all-time record of 19-19-2 against the current members of the United Athletic Conference, including an 8-1 mark against Saturday's opponent, Austin Peay. Samford has played the following UAC teams: Austin Peay (8-1), Central Arkansas (2-0), Eastern Kentucky (1-8), North Alabama (5-6-2) and West Georgia (3-4).
 
ON THIS DATE
Samford has an all-time record of 4-4 in games played on Nov. 15. The last time Samford played a game on the date was in 2014 in a 20-17 win at The Citadel. The first time Samford played on Nov. 8 was in 1940 with Samford, then known as Howard College, defeating Mercer, 14-6, in Macon, Ga.
 
MOSLEY LEADS THE SOCON
Samford senior linebacker Jaden Mosley currently leads the Southern Conference in tackles after the first 10 games of the season. Through the first 10 games, he has a total of 89 tackles, the highest total in the league. His 8.9 tackles per game average also leads the SoCon.
 
SAMFORD TRIO AMONG THE BEST
Samford wide receivers Preston Bird, Calvin Jones and Jaden Gibson are all ranked in the top 10 in the Southern Conference in receptions. Bird and Jones are both tied for fourth in the league with 49 receptions each. Gibson ranks seventh in the SoCon with 44 receptions so far this season.
 
BULLDOG OFFENSE RANKS HIGH IN THE SOCON
Entering Saturday's game the Samford offense ranks third in the Southern Conference in both total passing yards with 2,886 yards and in passing yards per game, averaging 288.6 passing yards per contest.
