HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Samford men's tennis team picked up a 6-0 win at Southern Mississippi Saturday afternoon.
 
"It was good for the team to have a straightforward win before heading into a tough non-conference match tomorrow," Assistant Coach Maxwell Giddens said. "The returners and freshmen are beginning to find their confidence and overall belief individually and collectively, which will continue as we keep preparing for the upcoming conference play."
 
With the win, Samford improved its record to 3-2. Southern Miss fell to 0-3 with the loss.
 
Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts to earn the first point of the match.
 
The Bulldogs then won the singles matches on No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to take the 6-0 win. The match at No. 1 was not finished.
 
At No. 2 singles, Darcy Nicholls defeated Olle Noltorp, 6-3, 6-3. On the No. 3 singles court, Hayden Menon defeated Ricards Spaks, 6-4, 7-5. At No. 4 singles, J.B. Pickard earned a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Ritabrata Sarkar.
 
At No. 5 singles, Will Gray defeated Charlie Brady, 6-4, 6-1. On the No. 6 singles court, Vitorio Sardinha defeated Maxim Vulic, 6-3, 6-0.
                                                  
Samford will play host to South Alabama on Sunday. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
