BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-2 win over cross-town rival UAB Wednesday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.

With the win, Samford improved its season record to 6-2. UAB fell to 4-4 with the loss.

In doubles, Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts to secure the first point of the contest. At No. 1 doubles, Emily Surcey and Sara Erenda defeated Vanessa Mellynchuk and Klara Kajabova, 6-4. On the No. 3 doubles court, Eleni Liakonis and Meredith Taylor defeated Kristyna Damaskova and Mackenzie White, 6-0.

In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 to secure the 4-2 win. At No. 1 singles, Surcey earned a 7-5, 7-6 win over Mellynchuk. On the No. 4 singles court, Liakonis defeated White, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Taylor earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Nera Ratkic.

Samford will next play at Western Kentucky on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start from Bowling Green, Ky.
