BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to South Alabama Sunday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the loss, Samford fell to 6-3 on the season. South Alabama improved its record to 5-2 with the win.
South Alabama won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to take the first points of the contest. Samford won the match at No. 2 doubles, with
Margaret Jaraczewski and
Hailey Troup defeating Jade Marie and Lara van der Merwe, 6-1.
In singles, South Alabama won at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 to secure the win. Samford won at No. 2 singles, and the matches at No. 4 and No. 5 were not finished. At No. 2 singles, Jaraczewski defeated Rio Maeda, 6-3, 6-1.
Next up, Samford will play at Western Kentucky on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start from Bowling Green, Ky.
