GLENCOE, Ala. – Samford sophomore
Gabi Nicastro earned her fifth win of the season and second in a row, and the Bulldog women's golf team placed third at the Chris Banister Golf Classic, hosted by Jacksonville State Sunday through Tuesday at Silver Lakes.
Nicastro finished with a three-round score of 225 (72-77-76) to finish at the top of the 43-player field. Nicastro was one of three Samford players to finish in the top 10.
Grace Engel tied for third at 230 (83-74-73), while
Anika Richards tied for sixth with a score of 232 (75-79-78).
"I'm very proud of Gabi for her second win in a row," Samford head coach
Joe Davidson said. "These were tougher conditions than last week with cold, rain and wind. I'm equally proud of Grace and Anika for their top 10 finishes. Our team finished third, but we still have work to do. But with this little break, it will help."
Behind Richards,
Ella Stoll (85-82-83) and
Morgan Franklin (86-84-80) both tied for 35
th with identical three-round scores of 250.
Samford had two players who competed as individuals, with their scores not counting towards the team total.
Christian Williams tied for 27
th with a score of 242 (80-84-78), while
Kate Joyner tied for 39
th at 254 (82-86-86).
Next up, Samford will compete in the Low Country Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford, Mar. 21-23 in Bluffton, S.C.
