GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Samford women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Western Carolina Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Samford fell to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina improved its record to 11-7 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Samford won the doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead. At No. 2 doubles,
Hailey Troup and
Margaret Jaraczewski defeated Andrea Redondo and Isabella Sambola, 6-3. On the No. 3 doubles court,
Eleni Liakonis and
Meredith Taylor defeated Madison Schwarz and Angela Perez, 6-1.
Western Carolina, however, swept the six singles matches to take the 6-1 win.
Next up, Samford will play host to Tennessee State on Thursday, March 27. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
