BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over Tennessee State Thursday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improved its season record to 9-8. Tennessee State fell to 1-11 with the loss.
 
Samford swept the three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead.
 
In singles action, Samford claimed wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to take the 6-1 win. At No. 1 singles, Eleni Liakonis defeated Francisca Gomez-Weiss, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0. On the No. 2 singles court, Meredith Taylor earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Sydney Brantley. At No. 3 singles, Sara Erenda defeated Jovana Nikolic, 6-1, 6-2.
 
At No. 5 singles, Libby Blair defeated Victoria Cooksey, 6-1, 6-2. On the No. 6 singles court, Grace Keller defeated Natalie Walsh, 6-3, 6-0.
 
Next up, Samford will step back into Southern Conference play as the Bulldogs play host to ETSU on Sunday, Mar. 30. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
