Women’s Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision To Wofford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team fell at home to the Wofford Terriers, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.

With the loss, Samford fell to 9-11 overall and 1-4 in Southern Conference play. Wofford improved its record to 15-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts to take the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Emily Surcey and Sara Erenda defeated Breda Brennan and Lily Woods, 6-3. On the No.3 doubles court, Eleni Liakonis and Meredith Taylor defeated Brianna Wilbur and Chloe Elliott, 6-2.

In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 3 and No. 4, but Wofford took the remaining matches to take the 4-3 win. At No. 3 singles, Liakonis defeated Woods, 6-4, 6-2. On the No. 4 singles court, Taylor defeated Catherine Blouin, 6-4, 6-4.

Next up, Samford will play at Mercer on Thursday, April 10. The match is set for a 1 p.m. (CT) start from Macon, Ga.
