BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –The Samford football team opened practice for the 2025 season with an hour and 45-minute workout in shorts and helmets Monday morning at Pete Hanna Stadium.
The Bulldogs return just one starter on offense and three on defense from the 2024 season. Samford head coach
Chris Hatcher talked about what he saw during Monday's workout.
"We've got a lot of new guys out there, so it's just a continuation of what we've been doing throughout the summer workouts, but today, of course is the first day we've been able to put the helmets on," Hatcher said. "I thought it was a very average first day. It was a lot hotter than it's been and I think the heat got to us towards the latter part of practice and we've got to work on that."

Quincy Crittendon, linebacker
Jaden Mosley and defensive lineman Conroy Cunningham. Hatcher talked about the players who have served as leaders during the spring and summer workouts, carrying into fall camp.
"Quincy is a great leader for us," Hatcher said. "We've got some good leaders,
Jaden Mosley on defense is a good leader, as well as Conroy Cunningham.
Jaden Gibson, a transfer receiver who was here this spring, has been a tremendous leader. So, we've got some players. We've got some good people on our team, it's just a matter of us finding the right combinations and putting them out there at the same time and in a position to be successful."
Hatcher said Monday was a typical first day and that they know what they need to work on moving forward.
"It's the first day, we've got a lot to work on, a lot of new faces," Hatcher said. "We kind of expected a little confusion out there, but we've got to clean that up and be able to compete at a high level."
The Bulldogs will practice again on Wednesday morning at 8:01 a.m. at Pete Hanna Stadium. Samford will open the 2025 season by playing host to West Georgia on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Pete Hanna Stadium.
