BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –Samford senior quarterback Quincy Crittendon was named to the preseason watch list for the Walter Payton Award, which goes to the top offensive player in the FCS, when Stats Perform released the list on Tuesday.
 
Crittendon, who is entering his second season as Samford's starting quarterback, was named preseason second team All-SoCon last week.
 
Crittendon completed 277-of-394 passes for a Southern Conference best 2,689 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. He finished second in the SoCon in completion percentage at 70.3 and he threw for over 300 yards four times.
 
Samford opens the 2025 season by playing host to West Georgia on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Pete Hanna Stadium.
