Samford Soccer Earns Fifth-Straight Shutout In 0-0 Draw At UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  The Samford soccer team earned its fifth-straight shutout in a 0-0 draw at cross-town rival UAB Sunday evening at PNC Field.

With the result, Samford's record moved to 3-2-3 on the season. UAB is now 3-2-4 overall.

"The first half I thought we were really great," Samford head coach Todd Yelton said. "We had a call there go against us that probably could have changed the game. At the end of the day, it's what you expect. Two in-town teams playing each other. It had a lot of fire to It, UAB really challenged us in the second half and made it really, really hard on us."

The Samford defense and goalkeeper Peyton Hull have not allowed a goal since Aug. 24 when the Bulldogs fell to Alabama, 3-1. The Bulldogs have now played 462 minutes without allowing a goal.

In Sunday's game, as a team, Samford had 16 shots, to 17 for UAB. Four of Samford's shots were on goal, while the Blazers had six on-goal attempts. Samford had seven corner kicks, to six for UAB.

Hull saved six shots while not allowing a goal. Hanna Rae Himes and Fleming Dean led Samford with three shots each. Clare Nicholas, Langston Lilly and Martha Bishop had two shots apiece.

For UAB, goalkeeper Leah Parsons saved four shots. Abbey Burns led the Blazers with four shot attempts.
