CHARLOTTE, N.C- The Samford men's tennis team opened its spring season on Thursday with a 6-1 loss on the road to the Charlotte 49ers.

The Bulldogs (0–1) faced a tough challenge against the 49ers (1–0), who secured the match by winning five of six singles contests after the doubles point was split. Samford earned its lone point of the day in singles play, highlighted by a straight-sets victory for Sebastian Harrison.

In doubles action, Charlotte claimed the early advantage by winning two of the three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Samford's pairing of Sebastian Harrison and Vitorio Sardinha picked up a 6-3 win against Massimo Pizzigoni and E Sanchez Bronzetti, but it was not enough to swing momentum.

Singles play featured several closely contested matches. Harrison delivered Samford's only singles win, defeating Andres Medus 7-5, 6-1. Darcy Nicholls battled throughout his match, forcing a third set against Ivan Dreycopp, while multiple other matches went the distance before Charlotte ultimately clinched the dual.

Samford will look to bounce back as it continues non conference play at Alabama State on Saturday, January 24^th. The match is scheduled to start in Montgomery at 1 p.m.
