BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Bulldogs dropped a 4-1 decision to the UAB Blazers on Wednesday at the Hoover Met, marking another early-season road challenge for the Bulldogs.
UAB claimed the doubles point with two wins , despite a strong 6-0 victory from Samford's duo of Eleni Liakonis and Hailey Troup. Trailing 1–0 entering singles play, the Bulldogs fought to stay within reach throughout the afternoon.
Samford earned its lone point from Cathy Cardona-Carbal when she secured a three-set win, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. Several other singles matches were tightly contested, including an unfinished battle on court two that stretched into a third set before the team score was decided.
The Bulldogs will look to regroup and build momentum as they continue spring competition on Saturday, Feb. 21st at home against Alabama A&M. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
